It’s your wedding day. You have a million things going on, a million thoughts running through your head. One of them is: “Will the photographers show up?” If you booked us, we’ll be there. This article is to give you an idea of what to expect from us on your wedding day.
THE WEEK BEFORE YOUR WEDDING
Before getting into what we do on your wedding day, let’s take a step back. A week or so before, we’ll send you a document that has a number of tips that will help us make sure we get the best wedding photos possible. We encourage you to forward this document to all the people who will participate in your wedding. It covers things like: keep the bridal preparation area as clean and neat as possible, to have all the details you want us to photograph in the suite – all rings, wedding day jewelry, bouquets, shoes, wedding dress, etcetera – how you, the bridesmaids and groomsmen should walk down the aisle and how much space to leave between, them, exchanging rings, the kiss, making sure the groom and groomsen don’t have phones or anything else in their front pants pockets, tips on the first dances, toasting – making sure flutes don’t block faces – among various other topics. We also send you of list of items you should bring to Costa Rica, such as over the counter pain and other medicines and why.
WE ARRIVE EARLY
Showing up late to a wedding is not an option. We will arrive around 1.5 -2 hours early. Why do we arrive so early? The roads in Costa Rica are unpredictable. There may be an accident, a land slide, a mudslide, a fallen tree, construction, police and traffic check points, the car may break down. You never know. Also, each resort has its unique security protocols, which take their own time, especially if the wedding planner did not convey our information to security and is at lunch when we arrive, which is not unheard of. Usually, if the wedding’s far, we’ll arrive the night before and stay in a nearby hotel.
REVIEW YOUR WEDING DAY SCHEDULE
When we arrive at your suite, Lindsay and I will spend a few minutes saying hello and introducing ourselves. It would be odd to arrive at the moment your coverage is supposed to start and taking photos. We feel it’s better to beak the ice as it’s the first time we’ll meet in person. Afterwards, we’ll go over your wedding day schedule to confirm what’s happening where to make sure we are on the same page and will be where we’ll need to be when we need to be there.
REVIEW YOUR WEDDING DAY SHOT LISTS & MOODBOARD
Next, we’ll go over your Wedding Day Shot List, Wedding Portrait Shot List, and Wedding Photos Mood Board. We do this to make sure we are on the same page and to see if you’ve made any modifications to them, and to discuss where the best locations at your venue will be to take group and bride and groom photos. For information on what these are, visit our Wedding Day & Wedding Portrait Shot Lists and Engagement & Wedding Photos MoodBoard pages.
SHOW YOU A SAMPLE PHOTO BOOK & SWATCHES
Since we don’t have a studio in your city, we use this time to show you a sample photo book and cover material swatches so you can see the quality first hand so that when you’re ready to order a photo book, there’s no guessing what you’ll receive with regards to the quality. For more information on our gorgeous, hand-crafted photo books, that are made in the U.S.A., visit our Photo Books Information & Pricing Page. We’ll also leave our Photo Books Design & Ordering brochure, and Pricing & Options guide with you.
REVIEW WEDDING DAY EVENT SITES
Though having photographed weddings at the same venue helps, it’s always a good idea to visit each site where each wedding day event will take place to avoid avoidable complications, to develop strategy on how we will photograph it, and make equipment selections to get the best photos. We also like to walk the areas to clean any garbage and more any items that are an eyesore if possible. This is especially helpful at beach wedding venues given that all beaches in Costa Rica are public, and beachgoers don’t always the neatest.
